Some of the pieces had a nostalgic whiff of Forties film scores, such as Fauré (I may have misheard that title, but it would be apt for such a French-flavoured piece). The group ventured into a darker more overtly jazz-like idiom too, anchored around anxiously circling bass patterns, and I wasn’t sure the two worlds quite joined up.
